This private tutoring program is being offered as a multiple-day class specifically for families who are receiving funding from ESA. Students who are not using ESA should register for private tutoring in an ongoing format since that offers a great deal more flexibility. Here is the link for the ongoing format: https://outschool.com/classes/private-tutoring-for-the-sat-andor-act-Rczl6eIj If you are looking for the highest quality preparation for the SAT and/or ACT, one-to-one sessions with an experienced tutor is the way to go. I have been teaching classes for the SAT since 2000 and for the ACT since 2008 and am a published test prep author. I have a proven track record of helping students make significant improvements in their scores, which has resulted in the opportunity to attend highly selective colleges. My background includes bachelor's degrees in engineering and psychology, master's degrees in math and education, and teaching certificates in math, English, physics, and chemistry, and I have experience working with all types of students. In our first lesson together, I'll take the time to get to know you and your needs. I'm interested in hearing about whether you have taken the SAT and/or the ACT and how that experience went. I'll want to know what your scores were, which sections and question types were your strongest and weakest, whether you ran out of time, and whether you felt anxiety affected your performance. If you haven't taken a practice test before, I'll give you one as your first homework assignment and provide you with a professional 11-page score report when you complete it. Our subsequent lessons will be designed specifically for you, based on your top goals and my recommendations after seeing your practice test. These are the types of topics we can work on during the sessions: - General Test Taking Skills: Knowledge of the test, improving focus, guessing strategies, timing and pacing, coping with anxiety, and motivation to study. - SAT/ACT Reading: Overall strategies, reading more quickly, building vocabulary, understanding the main themes, strategies for paired passages, strategies for founding documents, citing evidence, identifying wrong answer types - SAT/ACT English: Overall strategies, punctuation rules, subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, pronouns, parallelism, transitions, sentence structure, idioms, ordering sentences and paragraphs, and style and tone - SAT/ACT Math: Mental math, fractions and decimals, percentages, rates and proportions, word problems, polynomials and factoring, functions, linear and quadratic equations, probability and statistics, geometry, and trigonometry - ACT Science: Overall strategy (especially for pacing), data representation passages, research summary passages, conflicting viewpoint passages, general science knowledge needed for this test At the conclusion of each session, you'll get a homework assignment, so you can continue to build your skills outside of class. We will work together to decide how much time you can dedicate to studying for the SAT and/or ACT, and I will draw from my library of test prep resources to guide you in how to best spend that time. I'll also periodically give you full-length practice tests and use my specialized grading software to prepare a professional score report with an 11-page analysis for each test you take. These assignments will give you a lot of practice for the test and will show us how your score is improving over time. After almost two decades of helping students prep for these tests, I can assure you that this process works. Students who work with me for about 6 months usually achieve a 5-8 point improvement on the ACT or a 150-250 point improvement on the SAT. (My record is a 450 point improvement!) Since every situation is unique and it is ultimately up to the student to work hard and do their best on test day, I don't guarantee test scores. If the listed day and time does not work for your schedule, please reach out to me. I will work together with you to determine the best day and time for our lessons.
