Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 9
This is a private tutoring session for the improvement of writing skills. Before class, I will send a questionnaire to narrow down our beginning point. Depending on what the learner needs to work on, we will focus on academic writing and/or creative writing skills. I will use writing prompts and brainstorming/mind maps to teach them to choose topics. For academic writing, we will work with outlines, resources, thesis statements, and evidentiary support. For creative writing, we will write a variety of short stories. In all of this, we will underline the grammar and word choice to emphasize clear and concise writing. I will be available through messages on Outschool for any help after class.

This will be a lecture-based class, generally, but since the student is working on writing, there will be quite a bit of in-class work. Participation is a must in order to fully benefit from this class. Education is - I believe - a conversation, and students are more likely to retain knowledge when they are involved in the discussion.

Writing is fun, and it is a type of magical creation, regardless of the reason for writing. No previous specific knowledge is required.
Learning Goals
Students will begin to understand how to craft a well-written short story or academic paper.
