Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
The application essay.

You knew it was coming. Your child new it was coming. Yet somehow it came so much faster than anticipated. The deadline is looming and it all feels so very overwhelming.

Perhaps you're looking at your child's essay. You know this essay has a lot of potential, and you also know the few tweaks to their essay that will really make it stand out. But they're not interested in what you have to say. You need someone else to hand this over to.

Maybe you are confident (or cautiously optimistic) that deep inside your child is an amazing essay, but they are completely overwhelmed at the thought of writing it. Where do they start? What do they even write about? They feel defeated before they've even begun. Some outside help offering practical, manaegable steps is what's needed.

Or your child has spent hours and hours on the application essay, the brainstorming, the drafting, the meticulous revisions, and they feel that it's ready to go. But you'd like another set of eyes on it before that final "send" button is pushed and there's no turning back.

If you can relate to any of those scenarios, you are in the right place.

These private sessions are uniquely crafted to each learner's application essay and are a great opportunity to move them forward in the process. They will ease the pressure of writing a wide variety of application essays, from college or private school admissions to scholarship applications, and help students develop their own essay that they can submit with confidence and pride. Depending on the number of sessions, we can begin with brainstorming and topic selection and move completely through the process, or we can focus on just a few elements. Potential session topics include:

--brainstorming / topic selection
--thesis statements and outlines (planning)
--finding your voice / writing style
--writing a rough draft
--revising / editing
--meeting requirements (i.e. word count, topic focus)

These can be one-time sessions, or a series of meetings. In order to begin with nothing and end with a full essay, a minimum of three sessions is suggested (brainstorming and planning, rough draft, revising / editing). Sessions can be scheduled once a week, or with several weeks in between depending on personal goals and application deadlines.

Additional helpful information:
--In order to make the most of our time, please let me know what you'd like the focus of our meetings to be. I will reach out after sessions are scheduled with an Outschool message. This information is most helpful if I have it at least 48 hours before the first scheduled meeting.
--I am happy to provide personalized feedback outside of the meeting time on all work submitted. This will look different for each student, but a few examples are giving feedback on outlines and rough drafts, as well as checking final drafts before submission. Feedback is given within 72 hours, but usually faster.
--Can I guarantee your learner is accepted or that they are selected for a scholarship (or anything else)? No. There are too many factors at work for me to be able to make a promise like that. But these sessions will help students move forward with confidence, and have a more polished and cohesive essay that they are proud to submit.

Ready to get started? You can use the convenient self-scheduling feature to sign up for dates and times. If you don't see an available time that works, please send me a message and we'll see if we can work something out.

Have other questions or want more information? Please send me a message and I'll be happy to answer any questions.
