Reading is an essential skill to have. When we cannot read fluently, it affects all aspects of our lives. I want to help children gain confidence and be off to the best start. I am trained in Barton Reading and Spelling System and will be using it for tutoring, orthographic mapping activities, tactile activities, and fluency work. The student will be learning essential reading skills to help them on their reading journey. We will work a lot with orthographic mapping, letter sounds, blending, decoding, and encoding words. Orthographic mapping (word play) is one of the most essential skills for reading, especially for those readers that are dyslexic, but it is not taught in most schools. Through hard work, your child will start to make progress to being a fluent reader.
I have a dual degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I am a licensed teacher in the state of Utah. I have taught Preschool through 4th grade and have loved every grade. For the last four years, I have been taking classes and studying dyslexia and reading development. I have been tutoring students in my home for the past year. I am trained in the Barton Reading and Spelling System and will use that along with other resources to teach your child. I know that reading affects every aspect of our lives and plays a huge part in self-esteem. There are many misconceptions about reading delays. I use scientifically-backed programs to help your child successfully move forward in their reading journey.
It is very important that I can hear your child. They will need a good mic on their computer or a headset with a mic. As we move on in our tutoring, your child will need a marker and a whiteboard. We will also be using tactile activities. I will let you know what we need before class. It is usually playdough or rice. They do not need this for their first lesson. If they need any other material, I will let you know ahead of time.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will be screen sharing with your child so that they can use the Barton System's manipulatives.
