Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
In each session, tutoring students will do the following:
~read a short excerpt of a text (poetry, novel excerpts, or informational texts) and analyze it by answering higher-level comprehension
  questions
~answer a writing prompt
~have explicit grammar instruction
~have explicit vocabulary instruction
I incorporate plenty of time for the student to talk and ask questions, as I believe this helps them learn and retain information. I differentiate my instruction based on the learning style and needs of the individual student, including social/emotional needs and challenges. I use graphic organizers to help students manage new information and discuss options for individualized note-taking strategies.
Or
I will gear instruction to the student's specific needs, as some students may only need instruction in one area of English.
