This will vary based on event. I do like to meet with students at least twice when possible to see how they are going to articulate their research.
Assessment
I am always happy to discuss progress with parents through email or the last five minutes of class.

Class Experience

Note: Starting with Summer 2024 tutoring will go for 35 minutes instead of 40 once a month so I can give parents an update through messaging. Message will include what we did, recommendations and homework if that is part of our discussions.

Please note: This class can be ongoing to reserve your spot however, if you sign up and then pause, someone else may get your time. Please contact me to schedule an available class time if no times are listed.

Is your student in competitive Speech and Debate? Are they shy and need work with interpersonal communication and speaking skills? Do you want to give them an edge above their competition? If so, I would be happy to help. For the past eighteen years I have enjoyed my time as a Speech and Debate Coach, Judge, Professor, teacher and participant. In fact, it was my love of the sport that led me to become an attorney. I have over twenty years of practice as a Criminal and International Attorney and have a Juris Doctorate as well as my Post-Doctorate in International and Criminal Law. I am also a Criminal Justice Professor and worked for ten years at a non-traditional High School teaching History, Law and Speech and Debate.

Events that I work with include:
Lincoln Douglas Debate
Policy Debate
Just Talk
Informative Speaking
Student Congress
Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking
International Extemporaneous Speaking
Mixed Extemporaneous Speaking
Public Forum

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree from State University of Buffalo School of Law
I am a semi-retired Professor and High School teacher. I am also as of last year, a retired attorney in New York State. I taught Speech and Debate for many years (over 17) at the Middle and High School Level. I was an award-winning coach at the State level. My students also competed at the National Level. Several received scholarships to college based on their speech and debate accomplishments. I have also taught Advanced Placement US Government, Advanced Placement Comparative Government and traditional High School Government, US History and Economics for over ten years. I know it is important to introduce a fact based, non-biased lesson to students that will foster discussions with their family. For twenty years I have had the opportunity to work with students from Pre-K through Graduate School in both a traditional learning atmosphere and those classes that deviate from neurotypical teaching. I held my teaching certification in World History/US History/Government and Economics for Middle and High School. My teaching philosophy is that all students are individuals and unique learners that must have a stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. I will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and where mistakes are considered education victories.
While incorporating the eight learning styles into each class, I believe that there are five essential elements that are conducive to learning. (1) The teacher's role is to act as a guide. (2) Students must have access to hands-on activities. (3) Students should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning. (4) Students need the opportunity to practice skills in a safe environment. (5) Technology must be incorporated into the school day.
