Class Experience

Hola y Bienvenidos ~ Hello and Welcome!

Learning a new language should be an enjoyable and engaging process! This is why I create a stress free environment for your child to learn and have fun. As I get to know more about your student's interests we will incorporate lots of games, stories, and songs to learn Spanish.

In this ongoing private beginner Spanish class, we meet once a week to learn Spanish (if you are interested in your child attending a private session more than once a week please send me a message). Depending on your child's level and exposure to the language we will cover a variety of skills and topics including but not limited to...

1) Learning to count
2) Learning the alphabet
3) Greetings & Introductions
4) Colors
5) Personal pronouns
6) Building awareness of how to create plural nouns
7) Building awareness of subject-verb agreement
8) Build awareness of adjective-noun agreement
9) Age-appropriate vocabulary (animals, food, family, days of the week, weather etc.).
10) How to speak in the simple present (Estoy feliz- I am happy, Veo una jirafa- I see a giraffe etc.)
11) How to speak in the present progressive tense (Estoy nadando- I am swimming, Estás dibujando- you are drawing etc.)
#confidence

I am open to any suggestions, feedback or ideas related to class content so do not be afraid to reach out! As I learn more about your child I am happy to incorporate their specific interests into our lessons so that they continue to be excited about learning the Spanish language. The vocabulary in this course will be learned through exaggerated facial expressions, TPR (total physical response), pictures, games, and props to help your child make associations between the new words and their meaning. Of course, I will clarify in English if needed and use some English to explain grammar concepts when necessary. By limiting the use of English in the classroom your child will have a more natural understanding of the words and will not need to translate from English to Spanish but instead will have an innate understanding of the vocabulary and phrases.

I will speak slowly and clearly and model sentence frames and vocabulary for the student. After modeling the sentence frames we will practice them in a call and response manner. Your child will have plenty of opportunities to practice the new vocabulary and build their confidence in a private setting with one on one attention. In addition to speaking/verbal activities, I will utilize : (https://nearpod.com/) in my presentations so that students can demonstrate their understanding in a nonverbal manner by drawing on the presentation slides.

This course is designed to give students repeat exposure to the target vocabulary and sentence frames so they have plenty of opportunities to practice and master the lesson objectives. It is not expected that they will retain everything after only one lesson, learning any new language takes time and practice and with repeat exposure, I know they will see success! Please also keep in mind that it is developmentally acceptable for your child to respond in a nonverbal manner (thumbs up or thumbs down), repeat, or sometimes remain silent and listen to the lesson as they become familiar with the new Spanish sounds and words!

I am so excited to share my love of the Spanish language with your students through fun and interactive activities!

Nos Vemos Pronto :)
