Lesson focus will be balanced between learning graded song lyrics with melodic and rhythmic phrasing and articulation and being able to manage the technical exercises e.g. to sing scales and intervals at beginner level then backing vocal harmonies and stylistic studies at intermediate and advanced levels. To get to know the students’ voices and help them develop their range, pitch accuracy and tone through vocal exercises and basic music theory. To help them build confidence in their performance through focusing on their individual strengths and helping them pick the most suitable song repertoire to perform. To prepare them for taking a Rockschool graded vocal exam which consists of 3 performance pieces and technical exercises
Learners will be expected to practice their exercises or pieces for a minimum of 1 hour per week
An informal assessment will take place on their first lesson to determine which grade level to work at, and then once ready - a mock exam will take place during the lesson with a written feedback report.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Rockschool Vocals grade book - according to which grade they are taking. These can be purchased digitally, though are not necessary unless the student is certain they wish to sit the exam.
