Students may elect to do one of several options: Beginning recorder students can start on the Nine-Note Recorder Method: Easy Music for Beginners Week 1 - Learn B, A, G Select songs to learn and focus on the piece of the week: Piece of the Week - Row, Row, Row Your Boat; optional piece: Fais Dodo Week 2 - Review of Part I songs: Piece of the Week: Au Clair de La Lune; optional piece: Suo Gan; 3/4 time signature Week 3 - Part II - New note E; Piece of the week - Rain, Rain Go Away; optional piece: It's Raining or Hiding the Stone Week 4 - Part II Review: Piece of the week: The Fox; Optional piece: Pipe Dance Song or Tongo Week 5 - Part III - New note: Low D; Piece of the week: Hunting Song; Optional piece: Old MacDonald Week 6 - Review of Part 1 and 2: Piece of the week: Old Brass Wagon; students will prepare one piece from Part I and one from Part II to perform for me Students who have completed Parts I and II of the Song Book series may elect to begin the Nine Note Recorder method starting at Part IV Week 1 - Review eighth notes: Piece of the week: Frog Went a-Courting; optional piece: Hand Game Song or Jump Rope song; 2/4 time signature Week 2 - Part IV songs: Piece of the week: Chippewa Lullaby (D.C. al fine); Optional songs: Bluebird or Ghost Dance Song Week 3: Part IV review: Review piece of the week songs for Week 1 and 2; Piece of the week: Eagle Dance; optional piece: Three Dukes a-Riding; Down Where the Watermelons Grow Week 4: Part V - New Note F-sharp; Piece of the week: Baa, Baa Black Sheep; Optional pieces: A-Tisket, A Tasket or The Camptown Races Week 5: Part V Pieces: Piece of the week: Song in E Minor; Optional pieces: El Ruquet Valent: Swing Song Week 6 - Part V Pieces, cont. Piece of the week - Rocky Mountain: Optional pieces: Come Out, Sung; review all pieces learned to this date. From this point the more advanced recorder student can continue with Parts 6 through 10 in the Nine Note Recorder book and finish the book. The student may also elect to move to the Easy Pop Melodies for Recorder and student and teacher will decide which pieces they will learn for this part of the class.
Learning Goals
Students will either elect to start with a beginning method for recorder or will move to Part IV of the Nine Note Recorder method to continue improving their recorder skills.
