Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 12
Is there an English language book which you would like your learner to study? As a life-time voracious reader and classic book tutor, I am happy to work with you on any English language book.

Examples of novels done so far:
* To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
* Night by Elie Wiesel
* Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

Feel free to message me the exact book before enrolling in the class so arrangements can be agreed upon. We will discuss the size of the book and work out best length of time to complete reading it. From there, I will set up a series of individual meetings for you to enroll your learner in. This will be anywhere from two meetings (a get started meeting and then a meeting upon completion) to a series of meetings as progress is made on the book.

Generally I will prepare the following to assist with reading the book:

1) An introductory discussion to get familiar with time periods, as well any important things to know in order to make the book more relevant and understandable. If there are any major concepts, words or phrases used in the book I feel should be understood before reading starts, we will cover that as well.

2) Any meetings during the reading of the book will be a live discussion of what is read so far. I will ask for views and interpretations of what was read. This will include prepared questions I develop for discussion, but will mostly be learner lead based on what the learner wants to talk about.

3) Final class discussions will cover the entire book, theme and message discussion, primarily focused on what the learner got out of the book. I may point out things but I am a firm believer in letting the learner explore the concepts in the book themselves fully.

Note: I will do my best to assist with unknown words and phrases in the book, either preparing something for them to use while reading, or opening discussion with classes. Unknown words and phrases being one main reason for not understanding the book and can greatly contribute to not enjoying it.
