Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 4
This is an ongoing 1:1 tutoring class for students. One to one tutoring is a great way to focus on specific skills and tailor support. As a qualified teacher and certified Science of Reading tutor, I will create a class that supports your learner and their learning journey.

This class aims to provide 1:1 tutoring support on a regular basis to students. Our focus will be on phonics, pre-reading, and early reading and writing skills, depending on the areas students wish to work on. As a certified Science of Reading tutor, the lessons will also be grounded in theWe may also explore story elements and comprehension skills. I will create an individualized learning plan for the learner, with regular input from and feedback to the student's parents. Each plan is customized to address student needs and also to target areas that parents feel their learner needs support.

I like to begin our first session with an assessment, so that I can better understand where your learner is on their reading journey. Then I will create a personalised curriculum for your learner. I also like to consult with parents to identify areas of concern or areas that you feel would be important to support your learner.

For younger learners who want to explore and identify letter sounds and names, I also offer a shorter 20 minute class, as a 30 minute class may be too long for young learners.

We begin by learning to identify our letter shapes and sounds. Listening for those initial letter sounds in words. When learners who have an understanding of their letter names, shapes and sound, we will begin to explore short vowel sounds and words, such as man / can / van. Then we will begin to learn how letters blend together such as blens, digraphs, r controlled vowels, etc.

We will slowly build your learner's skills, identify gaps that may need to be learned and help your learner grow as a confident learner.

Once you book this class please reach out the me with specific goals or areas that you wish me to work on. I will work closely with you as we support your child.

Learning Goals

The goal of the tutoring lessons is to foster and develop an understanding of phonics and early reading skills. Early writing skills can also be worked upon if requested.
