In this private reading class, we will read and discuss excellent novels to strengthen reading comprehension skills. Learners will read and analyze classics and contemporary novels! To begin, we will choose a novel to get started and before finishing it we will select the next book to explore. The main difference between this class and the Classics for Kids Book Club is that learners go at their own pace and receive more personalized instruction. Classic novels are those books that readers love, share, reread, and always remember. These books compel thinking, relating, and great discussions! I select more contemporary novels that compel critical thinking and challenge learners to make connections. I adore literature and feel it is invaluable for learners to gain knowledge, feel understood, and escape at times. These books help readers gain empathy for others, see a little of themselves, and teach readers that they are not alone through the universal themes of family, friendship, loyalty, and empathy. Learners will be engaged in each meeting and discuss the chapters assigned for class. Learners will examine the literary elements, including plot, characters, setting, point of view, figurative language, and vocabulary, to better understand the book. I provide optional culminating activities in the classroom to extend and reinforce your learning experience. Learners will play a fun interactive Kahoot Game at the end of each class to check for text comprehension. This class is available is also available as ongoing. Teacher expertise and credentials
Georgia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
As a licensed teacher specializing in Reading, I have had the opportunity to support and engage students with diverse learning needs. My experience has enabled me to develop a strong understanding of different instructional strategies to ensure that all students have the skills necessary for academic success. I am passionate about creating a positive classroom environment that is both supportive and engaging, where students feel comfortable sharing their ideas and participating in discussions. With my expertise in Reading instruction, I strive to help each student develop a lifelong love for reading while achieving academic goals.
My passion is literature. I believe stories make concepts more palpable to children. Stories can teach readers valuable lessons, make them laugh, and see things from a different perspective, or take them somewhere new!
When I have time, I like to travel, experience different cultures, and learn the history of people and places. I am also an animal lover! I have two dogs, have worked with animal rescues, and fostered cats and dogs for years.
If you are interested in a class and don't see a time that meets your needs, please send me with your time request. I look forward to meeting your learner in class!
