We can help beginning and struggling readers learn to read.

This class is best for students who are reading at KINDER OR FIRST GRADE LEVEL - who are still sounding out words, guess, make a lot of errors when reading, and have trouble reading simple unfamiliar words. This class is designed to provide long-term reading support.

This is a great fit for students with dyslexia.

• Your child will read original illustrated decodable stories, learn spelling rules, and play games to maintain an engaging online learning experience.

• This is an academically focused class and the journey to becoming a strong reader can take lots of time and hard work.

• Learner Expectations: The learner should be kind, safe, and respectful.

When you enroll with Viva Phonics, you receive:
✔A top-tier curriculum
✔Highly qualified educators who care about helping your child make reading progress, and
✔RESULTS!

One-on-one sessions or small group classes allow each student time to practice reading and it gives us the opportunity to provide immediate corrective feedback. These two practices are crucial for struggling learners.
Frequency is also important, so we meet at minimum three times per week.

Week 1: Read and spell 3-letter words with short a
Week 2: Read and spell 3-letter words with short a-o
Week 3: Read and spell 3-letter words with short a-o-i
Week 4: Read and spell 3-letter words with short a-o-i-u
Week 5: Read and spell 3-letter words with short a-o-i-u-e

How to Optimize Tutoring Sessions
The learner should:
• Attend all scheduled sessions.
• Be focused and participate in the reading activities.
• Be on time.
• Use a laptop or desktop computer. Phones and tablets are not ideal.
• Be seated at a table.
• Have a writing notebook and pencil ready for spelling.
• Have a grown-up nearby in case technical assistance is needed.
• Wear a headset.
• Use a mouse instead of trackpad for easier management of interactive activities.

Angelica and a small team of tutors provide one-on-one and small group instruction for emerging and struggling readers.

We have a robust online reading curriculum and have been serving families for over 5 years!

Viva Phonics uses a structured literacy approach to help struggling readers achieve reading success. Each phonics lesson is strategically designed to help your struggling reader master new skills and gain confidence in their reading ability.

Readers start by increasing their understanding of letter-sound relationships. This is key to helping students recognize familiar words and decode new words. The ability to decode helps readers grasp new vocabulary and apply new terms correctly.

Readers gradually build reading fluency through repetition, practice and drills. This new ability to read words quickly, accurately and with expression will improve a student's comprehension skills, increasing his appetite for reading and devouring all things words.

Then, readers develop a rock-solid foundation in spelling through dictation exercises – an integral part of reading – by practicing the speech sounds verbally, and spelling those speech sounds accurately. A strong speller is a strong reader and writer!
