Where your child is at currently will determine the lesson planning I create for that child as I make things easy for the child as well as inspiring!
At the end of each term, students should normally begin a new level. However, this depends on their grade level, objectives for learning (examinations, performance or enjoyment).
I have taught piano lessons to ages 3 to adult for more than 40 years, in private lessons, school settings, and in preschool programs. I have studied to Grade 10 Royal Conservatory of Music level in piano (Toronto) as well as studied grade ten piano for a few years. Also, I have prepared many students for their Conservatory examinations. (Western Conservatory and Royal Conservatory) and prepared some for college/university entrance qualifications.
Homework Offered
Each child is expected to practice their new skills several days a week. as the student progresses to higher levels the practice component increase. Suggested practice times will be given.
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Each child receives a lesson summary every lesson. Once they meet requirements for the next level they will be advanced. If the student is preparing for examinations we will work toward full preparation for that date.
Grades Offered
Students need a piano or digital piano to take lessons. If they have a keyboard to start that will do for the first few months. Piano playing technique requires a different skill than keyboarding but the information in Levels One and Two will be very helpful for keyboarding as well.
Also a camera that shows their hands on the keyboard is most important. I should be able to see how their hands are positioned.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents are required to purchase books, sheet music and technique books as needed in agreement with the teacher.
