As a teacher with over twenty years of experience, I have been running my own piano studio full-time for the last decade. I started learning music in piano lessons when I was four years old and am currently teaching my 15th academic year as a piano teacher. I also am a former public school art teacher, university adjunct professor, swim instructor, dance teacher, and math tutor.
All students will need a keyboard or piano for both the lesson and regular at-home practice. You may also need to purchase books or print materials. New students, please meet me in the Trial Lesson Class and I will explain in detail.

I recommend all students keep a pencil with a good eraser at the piano at all times.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Technology:
To fully participate in any music class, it's best to check your audio settings in Zoom first! Watch below to find out how to turn on ORIGINAL SOUND on your device:
iPads → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1pkirtPH9o
other platforms → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEZMRtrSsYY

Google drive will be used to screenshare music theory games during class.

Older students may be asked to use noteflight.com to write songs on the staff. A parent will need to create a personal account and help them log in when necessary.

Parental Assistance During Lessons:
Parent assistance is necessary for young musicians to best interact with the class. Young learners may need help finding the correct keys, adjusting posture, or turning the microphone on/off. For this one-time class, I ask that parents send me a message ahead of class to let me know the focus of our lesson and how I can help.

NOTE:
Absolutely NO EATING during class. Learners will need the constant use of both of their hands as well as to engage with their full attention. Learners who are eating on camera may be asked to leave.
To teach sight-reading, I use a blend of my own arranged public domain songs, Faber Piano Adventures, the Wunderkeys series, and Supersonics books; however, transfer students are welcome to continue using the books they already have as I am familiar with most English-language piano book series. As I mentioned above, I also recommend young beginners learn using the Suzuki method, including the book and listening material.
