In this ongoing class, students will receive one on one piano instruction, beginning with the musical level they are currently performing at (beginning level or advanced). These classes meet once a week.

Class experience

In these private piano lessons, students will be taught the basics of playing the piano by learning correct posture, fingering and hand positions, notes on the piano, music signs and symbols, note values and rest values. They will begin to understand how music elements, such as rhythm, harmony, tempo, timbre, and dynamics work together to create a song. Lessons will be filled with interactive activities through clapping, singing, and writing musical signs and symbols. Students that are continuing piano lessons will continue to build more advanced skills, beginning with their current skill level.
I am a retired public school music teacher. I graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with a Bachelors of Music Education. I have taught music to all grades in the public school system, but spent most of time in elementary and middle school music. I have taught private piano lessons for many years in my home to all ages, ranging from 5 years old to adults. I have taught online for more than 5 years and enjoy this a great deal! I am also certified in Reading and ESL and enjoy working with all ages of students.
Homework Offered
From time to time, there may be written activities to support the musical skills worked on during that lesson. These theory assignments may require some writing or performing. Students are also encouraged to practice 1-2 hours a week in order to master the skills learned. This time can be divided up any way that is most beneficial for the student and their family. I would like to encourage the students to practice the skills that they have learned for a few minutes each day. A certain time amount is not suggested, because each student learns at a different pace. Practice at home will be needed in order to master the skills learned in class. It is my ambition to create a fun and inviting classroom, which will encourage them to want to practice in order to master the skills learned.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students will be informally assessed at each lesson through a variety of activities, including answering questions, clapping rhythms, singing melodies, and playing the material in their lesson books.
Grades Offered
-piano or electronic keyboard (with full size keys)
-pencil
- activity sheets that have been emailed and printed out for each lesson ( when needed)
- piano lesson book- If the student is a beginning and has no method book that they have been using, I will send the link for the
correct level Faber Piano Adventures books to be purchased. If the student is a continuing music student, parents will have the
option to continue in the method books they are currently using or switch to the Faber Piano Adventure book series.
