In  these private piano lessons, students will be taught the basics of playing the piano by learning correct posture, fingering and hand positions, notes on the piano, music signs and symbols, note values and  rest values.  They will begin to understand how music elements, such as rhythm, harmony, tempo, timbre, and dynamics work together to create a song. Lessons will be filled with interactive activities through clapping, singing, and writing musical signs and symbols.   

 I am a retired public school music teacher.  I graduated from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC with a  Bachelors of Music Education.  I have taught music to all grades in the public school system, but spent most of time in elementary and middle school music. I have taught private piano lessons for many years in my home to all ages, ranging from 5 years old to adults.  I have taught online for more than 5 years and enjoy this a great deal!  I am also certified in Reading and ESL and enjoy working with all ages of students. 

Homework Offered
 I would like to encourage the students to practice the skills that they have learned for a few minutes each day.  A certain time amount is not suggested, because each student learns at a different pace.  Practice at home will be needed in order to master the skills learned in class.   It is my ambition  to create a fun and inviting classroom, which will encourage them to want to practice in order to master the skills learned.

Assessments Offered
Students will be informally assessed in each lesson through question and answer activities, as well as clapping rhythms, singing melodies, and playing the material in the method book.  
Grades Offered

Videos that have been uploaded to Youtube as unlisted videos may  be used in lessons. These videos have been embedded into the Outschool classroom so that students will not need to access them outside of the classroom.
