Welcome to piano lessons with Hayley! Our lessons will be fun and flexible focusing on the music YOU love to play! Never played before? No problem! Have a few years of experience under your belt? Awesome!

We will work together to build on whatever knowledge you already have. We will have a foundation in classical technique but lots of time to play songs you really want to learn. Love Hamilton, Billie Eilish, High School Musical or Descendents? Great! I will find appropriate level music for your child and we will get right to work!

If you are a total beginner my one-time lesson will focus on introducing learners to the fundamentals of playing the piano. We will start with basic music theory and foundational techniques, including hand placement, posture, and finger positioning.

Throughout the lesson, I will provide a structured and interactive approach, using a combination of games, demonstrations, and hands-on activities to help learners understand and apply the concepts. We will work together on reading sheet music, playing simple songs, and developing rhythm and timing skills.

My teaching style is patient and encouraging, and I prioritize creating a comfortable and positive learning environment for my students. I believe that everyone has the potential to learn and enjoy playing the piano, and I am committed to helping learners build their confidence and abilities.

Learners will have opportunities to interact with me through video conferencing and ask questions, and I will also provide feedback and guidance throughout the lesson. No prior experience or knowledge is required, and learners only need access to a piano or keyboard to participate in the class.

Since this is a private class, I follow the guidelines OS provides for learner lateness:
"If your learner has not joined the meeting 10 minutes after the class’s start time, the meeting may be cancelled, at the teacher’s discretion. This is considered a missed meeting and you are not entitled to a refund."

A keyboard or piano is necessary for this class so the student can participate and practice. Any keyboard with over 2 octaves (16 keys!) will work well. I will be sending music to be printed, or students can follow along as I share my screen during class.

I pride myself on my 10 years of experience teaching piano to children of all ages. I can't wait to help your child discover their love of music!!
Learning Goals
In this one-time beginner piano lesson, the learning goals are to:

Understand the basics of the piano, including the layout of the keyboard and the hand positioning on the keys.
Learn how to read sheet music and understand the meaning of basic music notation.
Practice playing simple songs and exercises to develop finger strength and dexterity.
Gain an understanding of basic music theory concepts such as scales, chords, and rhythm.
Develop a sense of musicality and expression through playing with dynamics and tempo variations.
By the end of the class, learners will have gained a solid foundation in piano playing and music theory basics, enabling them to continue practicing on their own or taking further lessons with a teacher.
