Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
This class is capped at 1 student to ensure each learner receives 1 on 1 instruction. These Private Piano Lessons are perfect for Learners Ages 5-17 looking for long term or short term Piano Instruction in their own home. I also offer an introductory Piano Class called, "Piano 101" for learners just wanting to try out a lesson. You can find it on my Profile Page or message me for a link.

We will learn to read and play music with correct techniques for playing in an engaging environment. I have over 15 years of experience teaching piano classes to students of all ages, levels and ability. Whether your learner is a beginner or has taken lessons previously (in person or online) from another teacher, I will meet your learner where they are and help them grow to the next level.

Lessons are individualized towards the learner’s level of experience. In the first lesson, we will get to know one another and your learner's goals in playing the piano. If they are a beginner, we'll go over some basic skills for playing the piano such as, finger numbers and how to navigate the keys on the keyboard or piano. If your learner already has some experience on the piano, I will assess their skill level, in a no pressure manner, in order to determine what level of curriculum will be best for them.

Lessons will be taught using the Alfred's Basic Piano Library Method Books. After our first lesson together, I will determine what Level will be appropriate for your learner and send you links to purchase those from Amazon. When appropriate, learners will be given the opportunity to select some fun, "interest" songs to incorporate in our lessons as well. Songs such as an piece for an upcoming Holiday, Disney, Broadway, Pop, etc. All material will be taught at a pace that is appropriate for the learner. A keyboard or piano is necessary for this class. If you do not have one, I have some linked in the Materials section below.

Learners will be given assignments to practice at each lesson in order to reinforce what was learned in class and progress in their ability from week to week. No previous piano experience is needed for this class. These classes are a great place to start to determine if learning the Piano is something your learner will enjoy long term!

Lessons will continue each week on the same day and time for an entire Semester. You can un-enroll in this class at any time if the schedule is no longer working for you or if it is not a good fit for your learner.

- Spring Semester: January-May
- Summer Semester: June-August
- Fall Semester: September-December

If there are currently no openings that work with your schedule, feel free to message me to see if I may have some options that are not listed.

Tips For A Successful Class

1. It is important to see learners' faces and hands during the class. Have learners sitting at their piano/keyboard and have your device able to capture them from the head to their lower ribcage. I will be able to offer learners feedback on the use of their hands/fingers this way during the lesson. (Example Picture is provided in the Outschool Classroom once enrolled) I would highly discourage using a Phone or other small devices for this class. The larger the screen, the better experience your learner will have.

2. Please ensure to have all Materials ready prior to starting class. Learners will need a Piano or Keyboard, Pencil, Ear Phones/Buds, and Piano Method Books (once assigned) for each lesson.

3. In some lessons, learners will need to write in their Piano Books. Please make sure your space is equipped for this to be possible with a clipboard, desk, or something hard to write on.

4. Younger learners WILL benefit from having an adult sitting next to them (off camera) for help, especially in the first lesson or two. Learning the piano virtually is possible, but adult supervision may be needed to get started. You know your child best!

5. Ensure learners are in a quiet space to allow them to hear the teacher and stay engaged.

Maryland Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Hello Outschool Families! I’m a certified educator in the USA. I've been teaching on Outschool for several years now and have loved establishing relationships with learners and their families. I've been teaching the Piano for 17 years and teaching a variety of other Performing Arts subjects since graduating with my degree in Music Education in 2009.

Music has been a passion of mine since I was a child. I grew up in a musical family, sang in church and school, began piano lessons in first grade, was in several musicals, was in the band where I played the flute and piccolo, and lead music at my church on the worship team. I am passionate about students and education! I've included my credentials and experience below.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education
- State Certified Teacher
- Instruments: Piano, Voice, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone and Percussion

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
- Private Instruction for 17 years
- Public Elementary School Music Teacher for 12 years
- Public Middle School Performing Arts Teacher for 2 years
- Summer Camps (Church and Public Performing Arts)

CLASSES TAUGHT
I've taught a variety of subjects, but my favorite are Performing Arts Classes. I've taken my Choirs to perform at Disney World and have directed Musicals in Elementary Schools and Middle Schools including, Jungle Book Kids and Beauty and the Beast Junior. Below are just selection of classes I have experience teaching.

- Choir/Chorus (in person)
- Beginning Band (in person)
- Voice Lessons (in person/online)
- Piano Lessons (in person/online)
- Musical Theater (in person)

I believe it’s important to be a life long learner and that’s why Outschool is so awesome. This platform allows learners to hone in on a specific subject, learn more about what they’re interested in, or discover their talent in the fine arts developing students into well rounded individuals! My goal is that every learner and family leaves my class feeling their time was well spent!

I look forward to getting to know you and hope our time together will leave a lasting impact!
