Intermediate level piano skills/technique will be taught. Topics covered: scales/arpeggios- major and minor, expressions and phrasing, eighth note patterns, improvisation, and Jazz. This class is structured with a review, introduction of new material, then time for learner practice and questions. Class meets once a week for 30 minutes. Students will develop piano playing skills and technique through scales, arpeggios and exercises. Students will identify and play new rhythm patterns, dynamics, and expressions. Students will identify the jazz style and learn how to improvise or create music ‘on the spot.’
Consistent practice is important for progress with piano. Learners will be expected to practice a minimum of 20-30 minutes for at least 5 days every week. 1 to 2 worksheets weekly will be assigned for extra reinforcement of new concepts.
Learners will need to purchase a hard copy book- Piano Adventures Level 2A, lesson book and performance book. These books are generally $8 each, not including shipping. Learners will need a folder for extra printed pages, a spiral notebook or notebook paper, and a pencil for each class. A piano or keyboard is required for this class.
The learner will be assessed informally through written reports or a checklist.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
