Class Experience

Your individual goals as a growing musician will dictate the pace of our lessons and what aspects of percussion on which we choose to focus. This class is built around crafting an education that fits you perfectly!
As a performer, Mr. Dean competed with Spirit of Atlanta drum and Bugle Corps, Atlanta Quest Indoor Drumline, and Atlanta Corpsvets Drum and Bugle Corps, and performed as a member of the UGA Redcoat band. He also competed as a soloist at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and the DCA Solo & Ensemble festival.

Since transitioning out of his role as a performer, Mr. Dean has taught, written, and consulted for more than thirty scholastic and independent percussion programs in Georgia and Alabama in addition to his work at Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, GA, where he has been the percussion ensemble director and arranger for 10 years. His previous teaching experiences include Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps, Muscle Shoals High School, and Mill Creek High School.
Each week at the end of lesson the student will receive practice assignments to work on for the next class - generally this will amount to around twenty minutes a day of work, but can vary depending on what the student is working toward.
The necessary supplies for the course depends on what you want to work on. At a minimum, you will need access to the following: - The instrument you want to learn on - be it snare drum, drumset, keyboard, etc. and appropriate sticks or other implements for that instrument. - An audio and video set up that will allow me to see your hands move and clearly hear both your voice and the sound that your instrument produces - the more flexibility you have with your microphone placement the better so we can adjust to get a good sound. - Access to a screen so I can share exercises with you and you can see them as you play. - A metronome that is loud enough to be heard along with your playing - several free metronome services are available on the internet that could work, depending on your setup.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
