Description

Class Experience

Learners will work through the Orton-Gillingham scope and sequence at their own pace. They will improve their phonemic awareness, decoding skills, fluency, and syllabication.
I am an Orton-Gillingham interventionist with an MA in Special Education. I have worked with struggling readers in the classroom and in my private practice for over 17 years. I love that I get to help people develop a lifelong love of reading and newfound confidence in themselves. I believe that everyone can read when they are provided with the right toolkit. I always make sure that my students feel supported and proud of their abilities.

I will have internet resources available to learners who want to use what I show them in class. They will be free and not required. Due to the multisensory nature of our lessons, students will need one or two tactile supplies. (For example, rice, sprinkles, shaving cream, playdough, a soft blanket all can work!) No one needs to buy anything to make this class work. I am happy to assist each learner in finding what works for them. I will provide printables to use for each class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will keep a copy of each learner's progress notes for every class. I will provide them at the halfway point and the end of our course. If any learner would like to see them sooner, I would be happy to offer them.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Learners will need someone to help them practice. Parents and Guardians will love to see their progress!

About Me

Hi, I'm Kara.
It is so lovely to meet you!
I have over 17 years of classroom experience teaching in grades K-12, and I've been a tutor for even longer than that. In fact, my first "tutoring gig" was when I was in the fourth grade!
I love to...
