Class Experience

Hey, Y'all!

Thank you so much for your interest in private tutoring with me. I've designed these one-on-one sessions to provide a focused environment where students can develop specific skills and achieve personalized learning goals. Debate and critical thinking can be challenging, and larger class settings can sometimes feel overwhelming. These sessions are meant to offer a more tailored approach, ensuring that each student receives the attention they need to succeed.

I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with students on enhancing their critical thinking, public speaking, and confidence through debate. With 13 years of experience in training students, I’ve seen firsthand how transformative this activity can be. As a college professor specializing in argumentation and debate, my full-time commitment is to teaching and coaching in this field. I’ve had the privilege of working with students from middle school to college, both locally and internationally, and I’m eager to help you grow in these areas.

Here’s an outline of what to expect in the course:

2. I will teach you structured speeches and arguments.

4. How will I teach this class?
- This class will use PowerPoint, videos, lectures, activities, drills, etc. This will be a highly engaging and interactive class throughout the entire 8 weeks.

5. What is my teaching style?
- I have been teaching in college for 15 years and I have been in debate for over 17 so I have learned through experience how to keep debates engaging and empowering for students. I love being positive and upbeat while also offering helpful and meaningful constructive criticism.

Hi, Y'all!

I am the Director of Debate and a principal lecturer, with the privilege of founding the Debate Society, which has grown from its humble beginnings into one of the most respected programs in the country. Our team travels across the United States and around the world for competitions and training, reflecting our commitment to excellence. My passion lies in fully investing in my students, both in the classroom and on the debate team. It is immensely rewarding to witness their growth, learning, and self-challenge through critical thinking.

Over the years, I’ve played a pivotal role in organizing some of the largest debate tournaments in the United States and globally, all aimed at promoting critical thinking, argumentation, and public speaking. Recently, I had the honor of becoming the first woman to host the United States University Debating Championship, the largest debating competition in the country.

Debate covers a vast range of topics, equipping students with the skills to communicate effectively, respectfully, and with well-researched, objective information. I’ve led numerous workshops on navigating complex and sensitive issues such as gender, race, socio-economic disparities, and cultural differences. These challenging topics are vital for students to explore, fostering informed and meaningful discussions.

Below, you’ll find a summary of my current role as a debate coach, along with a list of accomplishments and the various places where I’ve been invited as a trainer to promote and develop debate.
