Class Experience
These one to one private art lessons allow each learner to explore the art media of their choice. Learners can focus on drawing or painting or both. I will nurture their individual creativity and artistic growth, as I teach them various art techniques. I have experience teaching private art lessons to students ages 8 to 18. I love teaching one to one art lessons and seeing the artistic growth and creative exploration of each individual. In these private lessons we can also discuss and choose what subject the learner is interested in drawing and painting from. These can include for example various animals, birds, any nature, plants, landscapes, still life’s, and magical fantasy creatures. We can also explore patterns and color along with color theory. The learner is welcome to explore more then one medium or subject over time in weekly lessons as well. We can also explore realistic to more expressive and abstract styles of painting or drawing. I teach watercolor painting, gouache painting, colored pencil, watercolor pencil, and pencil drawing techniques. I also teach botanical illustration or nature journaling. I love encouraging learners to explore and create art from the natural world around them. Besides drawing and painting, I also teach private digital photography. I teach learners to explore different ways of taking photos including looking at color, composition, and photo styles using their mobile phones or iPads. I am passionate about working individually with each student to gently encourage them to explore and find their unique artistic voice with whatever art medium and subject they choose. Lessons are weekly and will go at the pace, level, and interest of the learner. Creativity, curiosity, and fun with art is always something I bring to my lessons. I teach by showing techniques with the art medium and subject the learner chooses. The learner can work alongside me and ask questions. I also am happy to bring examples of art from art history as part of the lessons. At the end of each class the learner will compete a finished piece of art. My individualized private art lessons are also great for learners interested in developing a portfolio for applying to art school. Each class is individualized for the learners unique needs and interests. I will contact you so we can discuss students creative interests and needs before our first lesson. Learners can also share previous art with me so I can see what level they may be in their art and style. However if they are just beginners in an art medium we will start the art lessons from there. All art levels are welcome. Please contact me for other possible times not listed here you are interested in for your learner. I’m excited to share the artistic journey with your learner!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello. My name is Jennifer Paul. I am a visual artist and have an extensive background in fine art and photography. I was trained as a fine artist and love painting and drawing. I have a BFA in Painting from Cleveland Institute of Art with a minor in Fiber Arts. I have an MFA in Fine Art from the School of Visual Art in New York City. I have taught art to children and teens of all ages including an after school art program, art museums, art galleries, and one to one art tutoring.
I also have a lot of experience working in digital photography. I have worked as a photo researcher specializing in nature, travel, and animal photography. I love bringing my background and love for nature and animals into my art classes.
Besides fine art I also love botanical illustration, crafts, and sewing. I am also currently interested in surface pattern design and exploring how color and pattern connect using digital art with Adobe Illustrator.
I am passionate about teaching kids drawing and painting including exploring color theory, patterns, shapes, design, and different art techniques. My favorite mediums are colored pencil, watercolor pencil, gouache, and watercolor painting. I also enjoy teaching digital photography with my many years of working with photography.
The subjects I use for art classes that I am most excited to share are nature including flowers, trees, birds, plants, and animals. I also enjoy teaching drawing from nature and nature journaling. I love encouraging a child to explore the seasons and nature in their outdoor environment thru art.
Another passion of mine is teaching children art appreciation by learning about different artists in art history as well as teaching them to create art inspired by different artists.
My approach to teaching is to gently nurture and encourage kids to explore my art lesson while connecting to their own creative self expression and to have fun while learning different art techniques.
