Class Experience
This class will help students develop confidence in their writing and begin to recognize and/or develop their own personal style and voice. There is something for everyone: the blossoming writer will be encouraged to recognize their inner talent and develop their writing craft, while all students will be encouraged to bring out the best of their ideas in their written work, for school or otherwise. Lessons will be built around each student's goals, level and needs, while attention will be focused on some of the following areas: -Vocabulary development and recognition -Reading comprehension as a tool for expressing one's own ideas in a more clear and effective way -Organization of ideas in a sentence, a paragraph, and/or a paper -Forming your opinion and your thesis -The Hamburger Paragraph Formula -Learning different styles of essay writing -Learning different forms of writing -Continued practise and confidence-building Students can feel free to bring their own materials they may be working on, or they can be provided based on individual need. Bachelor's Degree from University of Toronto
Ms. Shiren has an Honours Bachelors Degree from the University of Toronto, where she practised essay writing for the social sciences throughout her degree, in both English and Spanish. She has written for community magazines in her home city of Toronto, and also worked as a copyeditor. She has taught and tutored English from young people through to adults, in the forms of English as a Second Language, Vocabulary Development, and Essay Writing and other Writing Practice.
