Class Experience

These private piano lessons are perfect for any student that wants to learn piano in a fun and engaging way, but especially effective for neurodivergent students as I am neurodivergent myself (Autistic, ADHD, aphantasia) and I understand first hand how having the right teacher can make all the difference in a student's life! My style is connecting with each student and really understanding their strengths and challenges, then focussing on the strengths while gently working on challenges in a positive and encouraging way. Neurodiversity affirming means that students are encouraged to be themselves, take breaks when needed, use fidget toys to self regulate, or stand up to play piano if needed. If students prefer to use the chat box instead of talking, that is ok too!! I will work with you, however you learn best! All students are welcome.

I use a variety of teaching methods (rote, ear, demonstration, body percussion, videos, interactive games and activities etc) to see what works best for each student. My goal is to always build confidence first so that students can enjoy playing and making music. Because these classes are tailored for each individual student, the lesson plans and goals for each learner will be different. However, there are a few things that you can still expect out of each class:

- physical warm up to engage the full body and wake up the muscles we need for piano
- rhythm play along
- scale and chord theory and technique
- games and interactive activities
- review of previous pieces and work on new pieces

Students can choose to study and prepare for Royal Conservatory of Music examinations, work on compositions, play pop songs, or anything else. Please let me know what your goals are when you register. If you're not sure, I will do a bit of everything :) We can always modify as we go along.

Hi, I'm Nefeli!

I'm a certified Online Music Teacher with with a BA in Psychology and a special interest in music and how we learn.

I've been teaching piano for over 20 years, as well as tutoring high school math and study skills. I'm a relationship first teacher which means I take time to get to know my students and find out how they learn and what their strengths and challenges are. I always focus on strengths first to build confidence and a love of music!

I am neurodiversity affirming which means that no matter your ability or disability, you will have access to high quality music education and that no matter your neurotype, you are welcome to be yourself. You can stim, you can play with your fidgets or doodle, you can turn off your camera, you can type your answers in the chat if that is your preference.

I have a variety of classes to suit your needs, including
- Just Games! (Fun way to reinforce theory)
- Camps
- No practice group classes
- master workshops on various topics (such as emotions and music, performance anxiety, rhythm, composers)
- 1:1 lessons
- 20 minute focussed practice sessions
- and more!

Fun facts about me:
 1. I call myself the Neurodivergent Piano Teacher because it's easier than saying "I'm autistic and have ADHD and bipolar and executive dysfunction and prosopagnosia and aphantasia and anxiety and I teach piano" 😅.
2. I have been bellydancing for many years and have recently started learning ballet. While I love middle Eastern music, I have to admit that the piano music during ballet class really makes my soul happy.
