Homework
Homework (practice) will be assigned each week, and will be reviewed at the start of the following lesson. Duration of practice time will vary from student to student, but the more you practice, the faster you'll improve! Practice schedules and time-sheets can be implemented and are recommended for younger students.Class Experience
This contemporary-focused music class offers ongoing private lessons in acoustic and electric guitar, drums, bass, ukulele, and mandolin! Lesson plans will be based on students' individual goals and skill level; however, we will also cover important things that every musician needs to know, such as how to properly set up and tune our instruments, and basic elements of music theory. Any skill level is welcome, from complete beginner to advanced! Our goal in lessons is to encourage passion and creativity! Students most commonly come into lessons with the goal of learning to play their favorite songs, but many eventually move on to additional skills such as songwriting or learning how to play in a group with other musicians. In addition, many students enjoy music technology projects such as creating backing tracks for practice, and using software to create music notation. Classes consist of a weekly meeting in which we will go over the previous week's practice, introduce new material, and make practice goals for the following week. Student projects take place during normal weekly lessons, but parents can feel free to schedule additional hours if a student wants more time to work together. Each student will receive an online music folder through Google Drive, which also contains a progress sheet that helps learners keep track of homework and contains general info about the lesson. Feel free to contact me with any questions about scheduling or the class in general. I look forward to hearing from you!
Learning Goals
Students will gain a general knowledge of the parts and function of their instrument, as well as all skills necessary to play music! Specific learning goals will be chosen with help from the student, and will be re-evaluated as they progress.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Since song choice is based on the interest of students, there is always a possibility that a learner might suggest a song with questionable content, profanity, or even religious themes. While this isn't always a problem, it's important for parents to review song suggestions with students beforehand to avoid any conflict or content that isn't age appropriate.
Supply List
Students will need to have access to an instrument for lessons and practice! In some cases, accessories are essential, such as drum sticks, a guitar tuner or tuning app, etc. Occasionally, a student's instrument might even need some form of repair or maintenance. Curriculum is available free of charge, however a student might sometimes want to buy a book or piece of music as supplemental material. Before starting lessons you will receive a basic checklist with any required or recommended gear, which we will go over during lessons!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a music teacher from Kansas City! I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Central Christian College of Kansas in May 2019, and have since held the position of Director of Musical Arts for a nonprofit program in addition to working as a private music instructor. I currently own and operate Independent Music Co, a small music studio in the KC area, but I still enjoy teaching!
In my free time, I enjoy working on my own musical projects and am currently learning Japanese. I have also played in a number of bands during my time in college and have had the opportunity to go on several US tours with regional rock bands.
I have taught all age ranges, with an emphasis on personalized lesson plans based on age and interests. Teaching is something that I'm passionate about, and I hope to be able to make a positive impact in the lives of my students! I’m really excited about teaching with Outschool, and I hope to see you soon!
