Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will vary depending on student goals. Composition students could be given composition exercises to work on to learn a concept, or they may be given specific areas to work on in their projects. Music theory students may be given practice work for new skills. The amount of work assigned will be determined by specific goals. If the student has a specific project with a deadline, the work load may be more intense than a beginning student who is learning the basics.Assessment
Assessment will depend on the student goal(s).Class Experience
Learn music composition and music theory from an industry professional. This private class is customized to the student's needs. Areas of expertise: *Music Composition & Song-writing - I can teach foundational skills all the way through advanced/jazz writing *Music Arranging - My specialty is arranging for voice (solo and group), but I also write/arrange for instruments *Music Theory - Composition & Arranging starts with solid music theory skills. I can tutor basic note reading/rhythm skills up to advanced A/P level and jazz theory. I can also teach sight-reading, ear-training, and musical dictation. Students can come to me for general lessons in composition, arranging & theory; specific tutoring/prep needs; or to work on individual projects. When you book a lesson with me, I will message you to discuss your student's goal(s) for lessons with me. Depending on the needs of the student, we may work in Noteflight, an external web app for music composition. Noteflight allows students to share their work with me and, optionally, their classmates. For the duration of the class, students will be able to use a special "Noteflight Learn" account through my studio. This is free of charge and I will set up each learner. Students do not need to register for an account themselves. No data is collected or stored in this account beyond their classwork and first name. Noteflight Learn is COPPA and FERPA compliant, meaning, it meets the standards required by public schools to ensure student privacy. If the student is already using a different music composition tool, I should be able to work with that instead. If we opt to use Noteflight for lessons, I will provide training on how to use the application.
Learning Goals
Since lessons are customized to the student, learning outcomes will vary.

Supply List
The supply list for this class will vary depending on goals. Most composition and arranging students shouldn't need anything - especially if they're using a Noteflight account as described above. Music theory students may need to purchase a workbook. Once I understand your student's needs, I will provide a supply list if necessary.
