Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 4
This on-going class will be tailored to your learner's individual needs in mind. Our first session will begin with an assessment to see what skills your learner has already mastered, and what skills your learner needs to work on next. From there, I will develop a tutoring plan to meet your learners needs. Each session will use a multisensory approach of students hearing, seeing, saying, and doing. We will begin every session with a review of previously learned concepts, a guided practice, dictation that will work on writing and spelling, and finally a transfer of the skills we learned into reading. Please note that vowel sounds will not be taught in order in order to help with vowel sound discrimination.

A sample tutoring schedule for an emerging reader might look like:
Week 1 - Reading assessment
Week 2- Introduce CVC words focusing on the vowel a, guided practice, dictation and spelling, and transfer into reading
Week 3- Review, introduce CVC words focusing on the vowel i, dictation and spelling, and transfer into reading
Week 4- Review, introduce CVC words focusing on the vowel o, guided practice, dictation and spelling, and transfer into reading
Week 5- Review, introduce CVC words focusing on the vowel u, guided practice, dictation and spelling, and transfer into reading
Week 6 - Review, introduce CVC words focusing on the vowel e, guided practice, dictation and spelling, and transfer into reading
Learning Goals
Students will improve their phonemic awareness, phonics, segmenting, blending, decoding, and spelling skills.
