Welcome! In this 1-on-1 tutoring session, I will provide students with personalized math support to increase confidence in their ability to be successful in their math class. During our sessions together, we can review homework problems, study for tests and quizzes, or simply practice relevant math skills with problems I will provide. We will use the Zoom whiteboard to solve/visualize the math problems we are solving. My expertise is in teaching Middle School Math (6 - 8), Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. My approach to teaching math is to spend time showing students WHY the math works by reviewing basic math concepts they are already familiar with and demonstrating how they can be applied to more complex problems. This requires students to move away from just memorizing the steps needed to solve a problem and encourages them to think more critically about math. I believe this is important because it allows students to translate their skills to a range of problems instead of only knowing how to solve a singular type of problem. Prior to each tutor session please provide the specific math topics your child would like support with, so that I can adequately prepare practice problems and maximize our time together.

Hello! I am excited to meet you all and help you explore the world around us.
I am a Middle School Math and Science teacher. I have been teaching for the last five years. And, before I became a teacher, I was a neuroscientist (a person who studies the brain). I love to learn and ask questions!
The classes I plan to teach will revolve around middle school math and science topics, but my classes will go above and beyond these traditional math and science topics you learn at your school. My classes will have games, simulations, and experiments that will help reinforce the topics learned at school as well as encourage students to ask their own questions (just as a scientist would!).
In addition to my experience with the middle school math and science curriculum, I have also been a private tutor and a tutor at the Huntington Learning Center. As a private tutor, I have helped high school students with their math and science work, including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Chemistry. While at the Huntington Learning Center, I tutored these subjects as well and did extensive tutoring for the ACT in all subjects.
I believe that every student can learn as long as they are given the support they are needed. During each class I expect all of my students to build each other up and to self-advocate when they need help. You all deserve to a great education that will propel you into your dream career!
