Class Experience
This is a 30-minute one-on-one math tutoring class for ages 9 through 16. As a previous high school math teacher, I have worked with high school students and have seen the benefits of students receiving individualized support with a math topic. As an Outschool teacher, I have also worked with younger students who wish to explore different math problem-solving methods. Having worked with students in a regular classroom as well as online has allowed me to understand that students have individual needs. Students may need more practice with certain problems, a different way of seeing or solving a particular problem, or simply a space where they feel safe to make mistakes and know they will receive help from a patient teacher. I can provide individualized support and instruction on different math topics, whether students are visual, kinesthetic, visual, or reading/writing learners. (Some examples of math topics include but are not limited to multiplication, fractions, algebra I, functions, solving equations, quadratics, and trigonometry.). To best serve students, parents can provide me with either math homework the student needs help with or a topic the student needs help with. Parents can also inform me of any other information they feel could benefit the class. For example, if a student is more of a kinesthetic learner. **Attendance Policy: If the student has not joined the meeting 10 minutes after the class’s start time, the meeting may be canceled, at the teacher’s discretion. This is considered a missed meeting and you are not entitled to a refund. **
Learning Goals
The student will learn an individual math skill based on their current needs.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Fresno Pacific University
Hello! My name is Brenda. As a math teacher, I love math and enjoy helping students get a better understanding of different math topics. As a math student myself, I always wanted to know the WHY and not just the how. My favorite math topic has always been algebra.
I have a B.A. in mathematics. I also have a single-subject credential (math) from the State of California. I am a former high school math teacher. As a high school teacher, I worked with many students with different levels of understanding. I have taught Math 1 and Math 2 under the Common Core standards. I worked in the public school system for two years until I had my first child. I have been on Outschool since 2020. I am also currently working on my Masters of Math Education.
I believe that learning should be fun, engaging, and interactive. I believe that students will remember content if they have memorable experiences. When students feel comfortable and have enjoyable experiences, they can learn anything. More importantly, I believe that each student is different and learns at their own pace. Each student has unique and individual needs. I believe that everyone can learn anything with the right support and guidance.
For fun, I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, and making crafts. I also love to sing and play the violin. I am also bilingual as Spanish was my native language.
