USE ACADEFIRST6 FOR A $6 DISCOUNT ON YOUR FIRST CLASS Over this course, we will explore a whole range of ocean topics. There's so much to discover and so much to learn. How do dolphins sleep? How can you identify an individual animal just from a photograph? Can some deep-sea fish expand their stomach, allowing them to swallow prey that's bigger than them!? Why don't penguin's feet freeze? Is it really true about parrotfish making sand? How do octopuses blend in, in the blink of an eye? Why are coral reefs called the nurseries of the sea? We'll answer these questions and more. We especially love to answer the questions your children have - our classes have lots of opportunity for interaction (but you can sit back and take it all in too). In some classes, we will focus on specific marine animals such as sharks, whales, dolphins, sea turtles. In others, we will explore wider groups of animals like cephalopods (octopuses, squid, cuttlefish and nautilus), ocean giants and marine mammals or we will look at specific ecosystems like coral reefs, the deep sea and the Poles. We will also look at some of the threats that they face but always within the context of what we can all do to help. Each class stands alone, so you can join in at any time and complete all of the topics as we work our way through the course. We'll start all over again at the end. The classes are packed with inspiring images and videos and while I'll share lots of information, we'll learn together. The aim is to learn - but we aim to have fun too. We always finish with a quick pop quiz. We provide an optional worksheet to use during the class as well as further activities and research tasks to complete after the lesson. In addition on sign up you get a cover and index sheet to create a booklet for all your completed worksheets. Schedule (two classes each week): Underwater Masters of Camouflage Ocean Giants Marine Monsters Extreme Survival - Life at the Poles Whales Sea turtles Penguins Rays Fascinating fish Megalodons and other prehistoric marine life Jellyfish Marine invertebrates Cephalopods Ocean Zones: Dive into the Deep Marine Mammals* Sharks Coral Reefs Dolphins Kelp Forests Rock Pools Mangrove Forests Marine Reptiles Shells Sea Birds * in this lesson we cover all the marine mammals but we don't cover whales and dolphins in-depth as we have separate topics for each of these.
Learning Goals
