Homework
❖ Daily reading is encouraged. This can be the learner reading independently, the learner reading aloud, or the parent (or sibling) reading to the learner. ❖ I will write a brief note to the student following each tutoring session. I encourage the student to write back to me each week. I call this "dialogue journaling"Assessment
Informal assessment will occur during each session as I work with the learner and observe the learner's skill development. Periodically, I will use a bit more formal assessment to determine growth.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Each session will begin with a brief greeting and include one or more of the following: ❖ Brainstorming words from a picture and working on a skill related to the words. ❖ Guided Reading of a book or passage. ✥ Word Work (word families, blends, digraphs, vowels). The learner will use a small white board and dry erase marker or teacher-provided letter cards (to be printed) for this. If a white board is not available, it can be done with pencil and paper. ❖ Writing. This will often involve writing sentences that target a skill we're working on. If writing is the primary focus requested, we will spend more time (sometimes the entire session) working on narrative, informative, and opinion writing. ❖ Read aloud. We will end with a teacher read aloud of a book, a chapter, or a passage. This helps learners to internalize language patterns, fluency, and expression, and also inspires a love of reading with carefully selected texts. ❖ Homework guidance Not every portion will be included in every session; the lesson will be based on the current needs of the learner and requests of the parent.
Learning Goals
