Description

Class Experience

For each type of lesson, the instructor and student will determine together what level they are at and what the student wishes to get out of the lessons (what their end-goal is or what they are working toward). A lesson plan will then be created to help the student learn skills related to piano, ukulele, guitar or acting as well as related knowledge around each.
Piano has always been part of my life, since I started taking lessons in first grade. As a musical theatre director I am playing piano every day, whether for a rehearsal, a lesson, or for personal enjoyment. It will always be my first music love. I learned how to play guitar and ukulele for my wedding - I wanted to play a song while my future wife walked down the aisle. I love being able to play an instrument that is portable - I can take my ukulele or guitar anywhere to create music, by myself or with friends and family. I have such a passion for music and feel it can be a great bridge between people. I currently teach piano, guitar, ukulele and acting lessons at the Performing Arts Center I own and run. I teach acting and theatre classes at a local college and direct/music direct productions at schools in my area and can be found on stage with improv troupes, dinner theatre performers and some singing pirates.

My college degree is in Computer Science and I have been teaching at the college level for over 20 years. More recently I have been teaching Outschool classes and local home school classes in Java, C++, Python and Scratch.
Students will be expected to practice at regular intervals if they wish to improve.
The student will need to have a ukulele, guitar or piano for music lessons. An electric piano would suffice for beginning lessons. I will provide music and theory materials for music lessons, monologues and scenes for acting lessons.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Music/Acting students will be asked to play or perform at each lesson, often with the instructor. It is a natural part of the process.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
