Class Experience
Beginner - Advanced Level
Have you ever dreamed of playing the fiddle, violin, or mandolin but felt unsure of where to begin? Are you grappling with technique, practice strategies, or finding great pieces to learn? Well, you’re in the right spot! As a passionate young teacher, I’m dedicated to helping you progress on your instrument and reach your goals! My students often praise my patience, communication, and adaptability. During our first lesson, I’ll likely ask you to show me your current skills—whether that’s through a demonstration or a chat about what you know. This will help me identify your strengths and areas for improvement. By the end of our initial session, you can expect some learning materials, a clear plan moving forward, and an encouraging start to our musical journey together! Here are some key topics we often explore in lessons: Expanding Repertoire: Learning new songs is one of the most enjoyable aspects of mastering an instrument! Regardless of your level, I can help you discover new pieces tailored to your interests and goals. Ear Training: While not everyone has a natural ear for music, it’s a skill that can be developed! Through engaging games and exercises, I’ll assist you in honing your listening skills for a deeper appreciation of the music you love. Music Reading: If you’re interested in reading music, this skill can open up a world of possibilities and styles for you! Improvising: Though it may seem daunting at first, improvisation can be liberating, exhilarating, and incredibly beneficial for your musicianship. Jamming: With the skills we’ll work on together, plus a bit of knowledge about musical structures, you’ll be ready to join a jam session! I’m excited to guide you toward the ability to make music with others. Music Theory: A solid understanding of music theory is essential for grasping how music is structured. We can start from the basics—like notes and chords—and progress to concepts like the circle of fifths and key signatures. Technique: Mastering the techniques required to play your instrument can be challenging initially, but once you do, it will make playing so much easier! I’ll be there to ensure you’re on the right path and provide tips for improvement.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi everyone! My name is Alani, and I'm excited to be teaching here on Outschool!
I teach lots of different music classes, including violin, mandolin, fiddle, and music theory! I love teaching students of all levels, from total beginner to advanced, and all ages. I am also an ESL/EFL (English as a second/foreign language) teacher. I love teaching people of all ages, but I have a special place in my heart for teaching kids!
I am passionate about teaching music and English online in one-on-one and small group contexts, and have done so on a private basis as well as worked with other online learning platforms.
I believe that everyone's connection to music is different, which means their goals and values will be different too! Everyone should be able to learn and achieve their goals along with a supportive and positive teacher, like me! This applies to learning any subject, but can be especially important when it comes to music or language, which are both challenging subjects. My students have told me that I am a good communicator, and that I am very patient and meet students where they are.
Aside from being a lover of music, I also am a fanatic of languages! Currently I study Spanish and Japanese, and I also studied Hebrew for a few months. I love the feeling of learning new things!
