Description
Class Experience
Appropriate learning goals in music always depend upon child’s experience, skill level, and interests. All students will learn important guitar concepts such as chords, melodies, riffs, soloing, correct fingering, and strumming techniques. Students will also learn how to read guitar music and learn songs using Guitar Tablature, which is the world standard for reading music on guitar. Upon request, I also teach music theory, standard music notation, improvisation/jamming, and singing along while playing guitar.
I’m a full-time music teacher, and I operate private-lesson studios in South Central Pennsylvania. I’ve developed a guitar curriculum that has been circulated world-wide, and I’ve trained other teachers in the most effective scope and sequence for teaching guitar. I possess a comprehensive knowledge of music theory and have scored songbooks for multiple instruments, including guitar, ukulele, flute, recorder, trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, violin, and cello. As a multi-instrumentalist, I also have extensive live-performance experience in venues such as night clubs, casinos, vineyards, country clubs, and music festivals. I’ve participated in a number of bands and studio sessions, and I’m fluent in a variety of musical genres including rock, pop jazz, blues, folk, classical, reggae, metal, fingerstyle, and more.
After each lesson, students will receive learning materials and related assignments to practice for the next week’s lesson. Learning materials will be in printable form (PDF), and/or audio practice tracks (Mp3/WAV), and will be posted to the classroom.
I provide everything needed for learning; all that is required of the student is to have a GUITAR and TUNER. If you are interested in lessons and need advice on purchasing a guitar or tuner, please message me, and I’ll be happy to assist.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I provide student assessments upon parent request.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
