- What will be taught? - French, at your level and according to your interests and needs! Since 2011, I've worked with kids (and adults!) of every conceivable age and level. Some are little and love reading and singing. Some are older and need gentle bringing-out-of-their-shell with French games and activities. Some are chatterboxes who love speaking practice and get stronger with every lesson, every conversation. - What topics will you cover? - Truly anything the learner and parents are interested in our covering. Some kids I work with are working on topics dictated by their schools (that might be anything from social events to culture to films, etc). Other, younger kids love to learn about animals, colors, music, people, you name it! - How is your class structured? - In half-hour sessions. If you are interested in longer sessions, we can discuss on a case-by-case basis. I recommend taking lessons either 2 or 3 times a week, but 1 is good too! - How will you teach? - By assessing the student's individual needs and reassessing our game plan every lesson. If I think they need more speaking practice, I will let the parent know and act accordingly. Same with reading practice, writing practice, etc.! But basically, I fine-tune our approach as we go. - What's your teaching style? - Again, this truly depends on the student. With little kids, I tend to be very high energy and change topics often - they need it! Others, whether little or big, are quiet and shy and very focused, and I am quieter and shy and more focused with them, accordingly. You have to meet your students where they are, always. - How much will learners get to interact with you? - 100% of the time, since these are private lessons. I believe that's how kids AND adults learn best, as well as by being flexible, relaxed, comfortable and happy. - Any required experience or knowledge learners need? - No. I teach all levels. I will use English where needed, and not at all if not needed. I always do at least 70% of the lesson in French, only explaining in English as absolutely necessary.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, everyone! Bonjour, tout le monde! I'm Nicola, and I've been teaching and tutoring professionally since 2011. I teach three subjects professionally: French, writing, and screenwriting. That's right — I really am both a professional French teacher and a professional writer and filmmaker! I have private students in all of the above subjects.
I have my bachelor's degree from Columbia University and my master's degree from the Sorbonne-Nouvelle University in France. I lived in France for years and am fully bilingual in English and French. I am always happy to provide references from students who have loved working with me!
I believe having fun and feeling relaxed are key to learning. The more relaxed and open you are, the better you're going to do, whether you're learning to pronounce French R's and U's, or learning to write complex characters and exciting plots!
