Class Experience
Students are expected to practice regularly outside of their lessons to progress in their playing ability, as well as do periodic music listening assignments.
In addition to a French horn*, students must have the following materials: Mouthpiece Valve/rotor oil Pencil Music, method books, and other materials. See below: Beginners will need a method book to start out. The method book we use in this class is "Recipe for Success: A Balanced Curriculum for Young Horn Players, by Karen Houghton and Janet B. Nye, available from www.houghtonhorns.com. If this book is not available where you are, contact the teacher to discuss alternatives. Intermediate and advanced players will need music and other materials, as determined based on individual needs. Teacher will discuss necessary materials with students after the first lesson. *If you need help finding a suitable instrument, inquire at your nearest music store or feel free to get in touch with any questions or concerns.
Each student progresses at their own pace. Students are assessed informally, based on their drive, curiosity, and development as musicians.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
