This class is a follow up class to Small Group Classes for Fabe and Leo and is designed to move at the pace of the individual student. Through games, echo play, and teacher demonstration, we will review the material covered in the previous class and continue to build on those skills. In our weekly flute lessons, we will continue to focus on flute fundamentals and having fun with music. Week One: Continue working with notes B, A, and G on tunes from our free online method book Week Two: Work on tonguing and slurring and playing songs in both 3/4 time and 4/4 time Week Three: Introduce eighth notes and new note F and C Week Four: Continue to play songs using these new notes and rhythms Specific aspects of the lessons will include work on tone, reading notes and rhythms, fingerings, and articulation. We will begin with whole notes, half notes, and quarter notes and the notes of the left hand (pitches B, A, and G). As these skills become mastered, we will begin working on notes of the right hand (F, E, and D) and introduce eighth notes and the corresponding rests of all notes learned so far. New songs will be introduced using these notes, new techniques will be explored, and new musical terminology will be learned.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I’m Mrs. Germann and my love for flute playing and teaching runs deep! With over 25 years of experience, I am devoted to teaching flute to students of all ages and all ability levels. My degrees in music (BA in music education and MM in performance) have provided me with many teaching opportunities. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching elementary band in the California public schools, teaching flute and music appreciation at community colleges in Florida, directing a middle school honors flute ensemble, and, of course, teaching private flute lessons!
Currently, I teach in Ohio at Stivers School for the Arts in Dayton, at my studio “GIFT” in Kettering, and with the New Horizons Program through the University of Dayton. Whether it’s adult beginners in the New Horizons Program, the very young child in a KinderFlute class, or middle/high school students……there is nothing more rewarding than being able to share the joy of learning a musical instrument with someone new. I encourage you to find your voice, tell your story, share your gift!
