Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students with longer projects should expect to spend time between classes working on these projects.Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 12
In this class, students work one-on-one with the instructor to master specific challenges they have struggled with in their writing or to tackle a larger writing project that they want to complete, but are having difficulty seeing through to the end. Young writers often become overwhelmed by the scope of a writing project, unsure of how much to write or how to best approach realizing their vision for the final product. With individual guidance, students can ask questions without feeling self-conscious or can express their frustration with a project in a space where they can receive productive feedback instead of judgment or critique. Each class period will be tailored to the student's individual needs for their current creative writing project or particular area of difficulty. This allows us to avoid redundancy and maintain a laser-like focus on the student's specific requirements at that time. Before each class, students (or their parents) are asked to send the instructor a short summary of their goals for that class. Goals needn't be the same from class period to class period! We can spend one day on developing writing habits that will help the student complete a long work of fiction, then spend another day focused on varying sentence structure to keep a story interesting to a reader. Please contact me directly through Outschool to discuss setting up times that work for you and your student!
Learning Goals
Learning goals will be based on the student's individual needs.
