1 hour per week. This course does have homework but it is usually either doing research or writing one paragraph per week so that they don't feel overwhelmed. The goal is to get them excited one bit a time and then gradually increase the exercises as needed. For example, week 1 might be learning how to write a topic sentence. Week 2 might be writing an intro paragraph including a thesis statement. Week 3 could be about the second paragraph and how to use transitional phrases.Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This is a fun class which prepares English Students in Junior/High School for back to school. Typically, day one at school is all about writing your first essay. A visual response essay is a great way to refresh kids on the art of writing. This is not a boring essay class, but rather an exciting class where children can express their feelings about a picture. Learning Objectives: 1. Define what a visual response essay is 2. Identify key components within a visual response essay 3. Practice writing captivating topic sentences 4. Write paragraph number one related to a visual 5. Talk about the one prong thesis 6. List common transitional phrases 6. Use transitional phrases within a paragraph or at the begining of a paragraph
Learning Goals
The goal is to write five sentences in relation to a picture (this is a visual response essay class). The entire class will focus on the first paragraph.
