If your learner can have conversations in English, but wants to improve their language leve in a fun and creative way, then this is the class for them! In this course we will discuss important topics in English while also taking time to understand challenging vocabulary words, practice listening skills, and learn how to have advanced conversations in English. For example, if the theme of the week is "Artificial Intelligence", the question might be, "Do you think robots will replace some jobs in the future, such as doctors, pilots, or cashiers? Do you agree?". Learners will express their opinions with me and I will ask follow up questions to make sure of comprehension. We will also take time at the end of class to correct any common grammar mistakes that I notice in class. Your learner will get to express their opinions on each topic and I will make sure that all opinions are respected. I will remain unbiased during lessons, offering multiple perspectives for each topic. At the end of class I will ask your learner to write an answer to one of the discussion questions as homework that they can send to me during the week. This is optional work, but I will be happy to correct their writing. About the teacher: I have been teaching ESL for 6 years and I've been an Outschool Educator for over two years now. I love teaching languages and grew up bilingual (English-Italian). I understand what it is like to learn a language, as I studied French and Spanish for many years. I have a B.A. and M.A. in Communication Science from the University of Pisa, and graduated in 2021. While in college, I worked for a local ESL company as a teacher and curriculum coordinator. I have lots of experience, but also great passion for helping students. Weekly topics examples: Learners can choose one of these topics, or we can discuss a personalized lesson as well through private message. Some topics to choose from may be: - AI (Artificial Intelligence): How far should this technology go? - School : Should we have grades in school? Uniforms? More sports? These questions and more! - Climate change: What are ways we can help as individuals? Week of March 27th: Voting: Should only adults vote? Should the voting age be lowered to 16? - Public vs. Private healthcare - Genetically modified foods: Do you agree? - Social media: should children have social media? What are the negative effects? As a teacher and moderator, I will make sure that everyone's opinion is respected. We will share our ideas in a polite, respectful, and safe environment for all.

Other Details
Parental Guidance
We will be discussing topics in class, such as the environment, voting, social media, and more. Some weeks there will be politically themed discussions, such as "private vs. public healthcare". Parents and guardians are welcome to check the topics before each week or reach out via message for any specific questions on the lesson for the week. All topics will be updated in the class listing, and all topics are age-appropriate. I will remain unbiased during lessons, offering multiple perspectives for each topic. When discussing politically heavy subjects especially, it is important for all learners to respect one another's ideas and for me as an educator to discuss all opinions.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
