Class Experience

Students will improve their English language and literacy skills based on their individual needs and goals.
**KATHRYN**
Hello, my name is Kathryn Lindgren. I teach ESL (English as a Second Language). I taught for 5 years at a public school in Indianapolis, as well as 2 years abroad at an international school in La Paz, Bolivia. I currently stay at home with my two-year-old and four-year-old boys. I thoroughly enjoy still being able to teach through this means of online teaching!

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Teaching from Anderson University with a dual license in English as a Second Language and Elementary Education. My approach to teaching is continually striving to be a compassionate, inspirational teacher who leads by example. With perseverance and determination, I aspire to be an effective teacher through the use of multiple intelligences and differentiation in order to meet the unique needs and abilities of each student.

I fell into teaching when I realized my passion for it while helping my mom in her kindergarten classroom over the years - beginning at a young age. A random fact about me is that I've been to 6 countries in Central/South America. Experiencing new places and cultures brings me so much joy! We'll be a great fit if you are excited and determined to learn and grow through our classes together!

**KIMBERLY**
My name is Kimberly and I teach ESL, Business English, Spanish, French, and ESL test preparation classes to K-12 and adult students. I have been teaching language classes for over 13 years in public and private schools in Canada, France, and Mexico - as well as online. I hold a B.A in French/Spanish with a minor in Linguistics, as well as a degree in Pedagogy and TESOL certificate.

My approach to teaching is student-centered. I prefer to develop interactive classes that allow the student to practice using the language as much as possible during the lesson, while personalizing each lesson to meet the needs and preferences of each student. What got me into teaching was a volunteer opportunity to help students learning English in my hometown, and I quickly realized how much I loved teaching and helping others develop their communication skills through language. A random fact about me is that I currently have five cats and two dogs - all rescued from the streets here in Mexico. where I live.

We'll be a great fit if you are ready to participate a lot during our lessons and try your best, while having fun and bringing a positive attitude to class. This means that you are not afraid to try new things and are willing to express your needs and ask questions during our classes. My greatest interest is developing a lesson that works best for you!

**ANA**
My name is Ana and I teach Spanish, English and French to 6th-12th grade and adult students. I have taught for over 7 years in private schools in Peru (my hometown country) and in an online setting. I hold a Master's degree in Didactics of Spanish as a Foreign Language along with a teaching certification. My approach to teaching is very student-centered. My lessons are a mixture of learning through context, task-based activities, and conversational skills. I develop a structured plan for each of my students according to their language learning goals, which then guides lesson activities.

I fell into teaching when I started working as an English teacher in my last year of university. I had the opportunity to work in a private school in my hometown (Trujillo) for a full school year. With my background in education, I later applied to an online Spanish teacher position and realized how well online teaching would give me the opportunity to work anywhere in the world! A random fact about me is that I decided to move to the United States to become an au pair in order to improve my English language skills. I lived in Massachusetts for more than two years and loved it! I gained a deeper understanding of education psychology and students’ attributions of either success or failure, especially when listening and speaking in foreign languages.

We'll be a great fit if you are willing to try your best, bring a positive attitude to class, and take ownership of your learning. I'm always open to your suggestions if you ever have something in mind that you want to study. If you take a lesson with me, it will be tailored to your specific needs as well. Hope to see you soon!

**GAIL**
Hello! My name is Gail and I teach many different subjects, including: ESL, Spanish, test prep, English literacy, K-6th math, and Business English. I have been teaching for over 20 years and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I fell into teaching while looking for a job as a translator, and I’ve never looked back. In addition to teaching online, I spent many years teaching in a variety of settings, from Pre-K up to the university level. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, a TESOL certification, a Spanish/English translation certification, and I have returned to school to pursue a Master’s degree in Adult Education.

My approach to teaching is that learning is FUN. I don’t want to be bored when I take a class, so I make sure that my classes are interesting and engaging for my students. I am fortunate in that I genuinely love what I do. I believe that kindness counts, and that extends into my classroom approach. I find that many learners are fearful of making errors, but I EXPECT you to make mistakes. If you already knew everything, you wouldn’t need to be studying with me! Not knowing the correct answer to something is just an opportunity for you to learn it.

A random fact about me is that I collect charm bracelets and uranium glass jewelry. My children and my dogs are the most important parts of my life, and I’m honored to share my life with them. We’ll get along beautifully if you genuinely want to learn. My biggest expectation for you is that you TRY. I look forward to meeting you!

My approach to teaching is student-centered, interactive, and includes building a strong relationship between student and teacher. What got me into teaching was my interest in learning and exploring new things. A random fact about me is that my dream of becoming a teacher began when I was four years old. We’ll be a great fit if you are ready to have fun while learning new topics and are willing to try new things! I’m excited to see you in class!

*MARK*
My name is Mark and I teach ESL, American Sign Language, literacy, and Business English to all ages. I have taught for over 12 years in public and private schools here in the state of Maine, as well as the past five years online. I hold an MBA in Business Administration, BS in Marketing/Management, BS in Early Childhood Education, and teaching licenses for K-12 Special Education in the state of Maine. I also am a certified Special Olympics coach and have been a Little League, YMCA basketball, and Boy Scout volunteer for the past 15 years.

My approach to teaching is student-centered, interactive, humorous, with a focus of long-term growth. I want my students to feel like each lesson is engaging, different, and a new experience for them. My background as an executive manager coupled with managing and leading thousands of employees, has helped me understand where students are now and what the best approach is to lead them to their goals.

A random fact about me is that my grandmother taught in a one room schoolhouse here in rural Maine (included in her class were her six younger brothers). She has been my inspiration to create that type of atmosphere in my brick and mortar and online classrooms. We'll be a great fit if you are willing to try your best, understand that mistakes are an important part of learning, and apply your learning outside of the classroom. This is our classroom and I want you to be a partner in what our lessons look and feel like!
