Class Experience
Does your learner have an interest in drawing but feel lost or stressed while drawing? Do they often feel discouraged? Do they love animals? This class might be the perfect choice for you! What is this class? This class is an ongoing private drawing class, focused on learning to drawing realistic animals. What will happen in class each week? Each week, we will draw realistic animals based on the learners specific interests. This can include all animals, including prehistoric, mythical, and anything else that gets your learner excited about drawing! I will teach each drawing step-by-step at the pace that best suits your learner. I love giving extra tips and tricks, and explaining why certain techniques work, to build a strong foundation of knowledge as we do each lesson. Who might benefit from this class? Any student who has an interest in animals and would like to improve their drawing abilities. Learners who have a history of being very hard on themselves, feeling discouraged or stressed will greatly benefit from my gentle and accepting approach. I move at the learner’s pace and never judge! This class is great for a learner of any skill level. Beginners will learn basic drawing principals to build a strong foundation, and more advanced learners will benefit from new techniques as well as friendly feedback and suggestions to take their art to the next level. This class is also a great outlet for students who thrive on one-on-one interactions with teachers. What if my student wants to learn to draw other things as well? We can absolutely include your learners interests in this class so if they want to learn to draw other things as well, we can plan for that! What if I have an unpredictable schedule? No worries, I can work with you to determine what works best. I am pretty flexible! What are your qualifications or experiences that make you a good art teacher? I graduated in 2019 from OCAD University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts and have been a practicing artist and art teacher ever since. I have 4 years of experience teaching all kinds of art lessons to students aged 4-15 years, in-person and online. I have experience teaching students of varying needs and abilities and know how to tailor my lessons to each student. I am flexible to change and can think quickly on my feet to shift gears whenever necessary to best suit my students. What if cost is a barrier for me? If cost is a barrier to you and you think your learner would greatly benefit from this class, please let me know. I do have a number of coupons available for families in need. I am a firm believer that art should be available to all students!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Mekayla Dionne. I am a Toronto, Canada based Artist and Art Teacher! I teach drawing and painting classes for children aged 5-16. I teach a variety of mediums such as acrylic, watercolour, tempera, graphite, and more! I love to help students build their confidence in their art as well as in themselves.
I went to OCAD University and received a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), majoring in Drawing & Painting. I now have my own professional art practice and I frequently show my paintings in galleries.
My artistic passion is in creating large scale abstract paintings using dozens of layers to achieve a highly tactile surface, as well as create optical illusions. However, my foundation is in realism drawing. I spent years building the skill of drawing things as realistically as possible, including drawing flowing hair, water, and rocks, using shading techniques.
When I teach, my primary goal is to make sure everyone is having fun. Art can be frustrating at times, and a lot of practice goes into learning just one skill. I know how important it is to make it a fun experience for children so that they don't feel discouraged. After all, the best thing you can do is practice, practice, practice!
When I am not teaching or creating my own art, I love to swim at the beach, go on bike rides, and tend to my plants. I am super friendly so don't be afraid to say "hi!", and I can't wait to meet all of you!
