Class Experience
By building a rapport and exchanging interesting questions in a casual setting, students can develop a speaking comfort level as they begin to learn how to use their voice, eye contact and gestures to communicate and share ideas. As they learn to organize their thoughts and speak more clearly, they discover their words can have purpose and power, in turn, increasing their confidence and their speaking abilities. Having an object to share, or an event to discuss helps prepare a student for a comfortable experience. Show-and-tell with casual conversations help learners become comfortable sharing with a single person, or in front of a group. They learn fundamental speaking and listening skills. They practice organizing thoughts, speaking in appropriate volumes, tones and rates of speech, conveying ideas, and using a variety of descriptive language to express ideas and share stories. These are also great tools to help English language learners develop vocabulary, pronunciation, and confidence. In this class, we will begin with introductions and “small talk” to establish rapport. I will informally assess your student as we discuss common interests and learn a few new things about each other through games and conversation. Using my observations and parental preferences communicated prior to class, we will address a few speaking skills we can focus on as we practice conversing throughout the remainder of the class. I will model for your student and give ample opportunity for them to practice speaking, listening and communicating effectively. The goal is to have your learner feeling comfortable and confident as they work towards increasing their self confidence and improving their speaking skills. ** If you do not see a time that works for you and your student, please contact me and I will do my best to accommodate your schedule. I am able to set up some late afternoon and early evening times to meet with your student on an as needed basis. I look forward to hearing from you.
Learning Goals
Your student will learn to organize thoughts, thoughtfully respond to questions, speak clearly, listen intently and gain confidence exchanging questions and sharing ideas.

Parental Guidance
Please tell me a little about your student prior to our class. I would like to know some of their interests, recent exciting experiences, or anything important to them. This gives us a comfortable jumping off point for conversations if your learner is struggling to form thoughts. Also, it is important you share with me what you hope to accomplish during our time together in class. What particular speaking / communication needs would like to see addressed? What is your student’s current comfort level with public speaking and conversation? Please feel free to share both strengths and weaknesses. This helps me best prepare for your individual student.

Supply List
Based on our communications prior to class, and the information you share, I may suggest a graphic organizer to be used, or a show-and-tell object be brought to class to support your student in their communication efforts. I will share any files to be printed the day before our meeting. I will let you know in advance if there are any materials your student should bring to class, or graphic organizers to print / complete before we meet. Each class is personalized to the particular student’s needs. Thank you for your close communication with me. It helps me to support your student’s success.
