To ensure effective tutoring, the teacher suggests meeting 3x per week. Book additional recurring meetings after the initial purchase.Learners will improve skills in the following areas: ○ reading ○ listening ○ speaking ○ critical thinking skills ○ Learners will understand that the sounds in speech relate to letters - phonics ○ Learners will increase their ability to read with accuracy, correct pace and expression - fluency ○ Learners will develop an understanding of individual word meanings and increase their vocabulary - vocabulary ○ Learners will develop the ability to get meaning from text and better understand what they are reading - reading comprehension
Hello, I'm Paula Reid and happy to meet you and be able to privately tutor your learner. I've been in the education field all my life it seems, from helping my classmates finish their lessons when I was in second grade, well actually tutoring them when they needed help in a subject. I loved helping my classmates so much that it stuck with me throughout my schooling until I became a teacher maximizing my passion to teach children. Later on I became a Principal. I just love teaching! I love children of all ages and I love seeing learners become the best that they can be . . . and it happens through great parenting, education, phenomenal teaching and even with the help of a dedicated tutor. I have a BA in Psychology, an MA in Education, Special Education and post-graduate work in School Administration. I've taught learners from the ages of 4 to seniors in urban, rural USA, Africa and South America, as well as ESL classes to children and young adults in China and a few other countries. I've taught special needs students as well as gifted learners. I've been an online teacher for seven years now and have enjoyed every moment. My every day goal is to help people, to learn something new each day and teach something to someone; additionally to help students love learning, become life-long learners and develop a healthy, global view of our world. I love life, traveling, reading, music, photography, theater, adventure and I'll love teaching and tutoring your learner in this one-on-one private tutoring session/s, really getting to know each learner and help them get to their best academic level.
Homework Offered
○ Learners are always encouraged to practice what was taught in each private session ○ Learners 7 & 8 years old should practice reading something of interest to them for 10-15 minutes a day [minimal] ○ Learners 9-11 should practice reading something of interest to them for 20-30 minutes a day [minimal] ○ Learners 12-13 should practice reading something of interest to them 30 minutes a day [minimal]0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
○ Learners will be assessed from time to time in order to mark improvementGrades Offered
Learners 7 & 8 years will need the following supplies: ○ dry erase whiteboard 8 X 10" minimum ○ dry erase markers ○ dry erase eraser [or clean sock] ○ lined paper for writing words, phrases and complete sentences ○ pencils Learners 9-13 years will need the following supplies: ○ dry erase whiteboard 8 X 10" minimum ○ dry erase markers ○ dry erase eraser [or clean sock] ○ dedicated notebook for note taking & assignments ○ pencils / pens ○ dictionary [physical or online access]
○ This course can be repeated as needed. ○ Parents are encouraged to communicate via e-mail any skills, areas of need or interest needing or wanting to be addressed in the learners private 1-on-1 tutoring session.
