Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner Level
This private beginning Spanish class will help your learner gain confidence in speaking and understanding Spanish. We will begin with the alphabet and pronunciation of each letter, as the lessons progress, we will move on to relevant topics such as colors, animals, food etc. As the lessons advance, we will learn greetings and have short conversations in Spanish. When appropriate, we will use songs and games to help students learn new material. As this is a 45 minute class, we will use the first few minutes to review the previous lesson before learning new material. And because it is a private class, I will be able to personalize the lesson so we can move at your learner's pace.

I am a native Spanish speaker, my first language is Spanish because both my parents were raised in Mexico. I only spoke Spanish until the age of 5, when I entered public schools. As I became proficient in English, I helped translate for my parents. And because my parents only spoke Spanish, I continued to speak Spanish on a daily bases, then, when I became a teacher, I used my Spanish skills to help my ESL students in my classroom.

Lesson 1 - We will begin with introductions and I will explain the format of our class. Our first theme will be "El Alfabeto" where we will use rhythm and syllables to learn the alphabet song in Spanish and learn a few easy words such as "familia" and "elefante".

Lesson 2 - Los Numeros - Students will learn the pronunciation of numbers 0-20, see the spelling of numbers 0-10 and do a matching activity to reinforce what they are learning.

Lesson 3 - Los Colores - Students will learn the pronunciation of colors, learn a song that will help them remember the colors in Spanish and learn a phrase on how to say their favorite color in Spanish.

Lesson 4 - En La Granja - Students will learn the names of farm animals, we will hear the sounds some animals make and use them to practice our new vocabulary. Sounds from Pixabay.

Lesson 5 - Mi Cuerpo - Students will learn the name of the different parts of our body and learn a song that will help them remember the names.

Lesson 6 - Mi Familia - Students will learn the names of different family members and we will learn to say the sentence "My sister's name is ____." in Spanish for the different family members.

Lesson 7 - Los Días de la Semana - Students will learn the days of the week, learn a song to help remember the days and learn phrases with the words ‘hoy’, ‘mañana’, and ‘ayer’.

Lesson 8 - Los Meses del Año -Students will learn the months of the year, learn a song to help them remember the months and they will learn how to say a phrase about their birthday month in Spanish.

I am a retired public school teacher with over 30 years of experience. My philosophy about teaching is that all students, no matter their age, are individuals that learn in their own unique way. If we meet our students at their level and build from there, we maximize their potential for success.

Credentials & Experience:
-Bachelor of Science in Education
-Master of Education in Elementary Education
-20 years teaching middle school math
-11 years as an instructional facilitator

My husband and I are both retired and we take care of my 93 year old mother. I am very grateful that I am able to take care of my mom and still continue to connect and work with students. I love working with kids, seeing them learn and apply their knowledge is truly rewarding.
