Description
Class Experience
The class will be taught in English, with a bit of Japanese listening/pronunciation practice. No prior knowledge required, and students may join at any time. This study session is learner directed, meaning students will have the opportunity to study things they are passionate about or having trouble with. I will encourage students to explore their interests and challenge themselves. Students can choose from the Hiragana / Katakana / Kanji writing system, as well as useful Japanese vocabulary...
Students will improve their visual/verbal recognition of Japanese vocabulary and the 3 Japanese writing systems.
My interest in language started at about 8 years old, but for many years, learning materials for me were scarce. I began self-studying the Japanese language, as well as other languages in 2016 in order to communicate with my ESL (English as a Second Language) students. Over the years, I’ve taken private tutoring lessons from native and non-native speakers, as well as learned a thing or two from students in Japan and several other countries. I hope to take my experience and share it with children so that they may read more books, experience more worldly perspectives, and connect with more people.
Students do not need any materials to participate in class. Visual learners may bring props or flash cards to the session. If I suspect a student would benefit from visual learning aids, I will provide custom printable digital downloads. I recommend having a dedicated notebook or sketchbook for note taking.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Teacher will be using Procreate and Canva on screen share or WhiteBoard over ZOOM.
