Homework
1-2 hours per week. Practicing at least 15 minutes each day on your instrument is preferred for noticeable growth. While "homework" will not be checked, practice exercises will be given to students at the end of each lesson. These exercises will be assessed in the following lesson to check for understanding before moving on to new concepts and songs.
Assessment
The learner will be assessed informally each week and written reports will be sent out as requested by parents. Notes will be sent out as needed with any updates on practicing goals or learner achievements.

Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
This class is meant for any student who wants to learn a new instrument, improve on their current instrument, or excel in a band program. In this one-on-one course, we will improve instrument technique while learning about pitch, rhythm, tempo, and musicianship.

In each session, we will start with a warm-up specifically created for your unique set of skills and goals. These warm-ups will focus on note-reading, range, articulation, fingerings, articulations, and breath support. After warm-ups, we will move into either a lesson book or a solo/etude provided by the instructor. We can also use this time to learn any new songs brought by the student or anything from your band class. At the end of each lesson, students will recieve practicing homewek that will be assessed in the following lesson.

Week 1: Getting to know you and your playing level, setting goals for the class, covering the basics of classes, sight-reading some exercises or learning how to make a good sound.
Week 2 and beyond: Tailored lessons based on student goals. These might include solos, exercises, warm-ups, and technical etudes.
Learning Goals
Student will improve their skills on their chosen instrument through warm-up exercises, etudes, practicing techniques, and help from an individual teacher. These goals will be adjusted throughout the classes to meet the specific needs of each learner.

I am a K-12 certified music teacher with teaching licenses in two states. I currently teach elementary school beginning band, middle school intermediate band, and high school marching percussion. I teach 15-minute individual lessons to 100 students a week during the school day, and I teach private band lessons after school hours. I can play all of the band instruments and I can help students with strategies from my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education as well as from my experience as a classroom band teacher. I have been teaching private lessons for the past 7 years to students ranging from 3rd grade to 12th grade, and I have been teaching virtual lessons for the past 3 years. I play in several professional groups on various instruments, and can help with many different genres and styles of music.
