-A piece of carving safe carving linoleum (I would suggest 4x6 or 5x6) -A piece of paper to draw the design on might be helpful- same size as the linoleum block -Pencil and eraser -Speedball linoleum cutter Suggestion: This product comes with a proper sized linoleum carving block and carving tools for a reasonable price! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XK8FLKZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -Speedball block printing ink (1 color) -A tray or plate to roll the printing ink onto ( I like to use a paper plate or an old lunch tray) -Speedball rubber brayer/roller or printmaking -Paper to print onto, larger than the printing block- Printmaking paper is great, but regular printer paper can work fine! -A work area covered in newspaper or other protection, smock or old tshirt -Optional: Disposable gloves if you dislike having dirty fingers! -Optional: Protective gloves and a safety press or bench to keep the linoleum piece in place while carving Suggestion: This product comes with a proper sized linoleum carving block and carving tools for a reasonable price! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XK8FLKZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
1 hour 10 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
It is incredibly important that students practice good safety while carving their linoleum block. Students will be shown how to carve away from their free hand . Please be sure to reduce distractions and allow students to focus on their safety as well as their artwork. I encourage an adult in the household to be near the student as they first begin carving to ensure they are carving away from their body and keeping their non-carving hand behind the carving hand. The linoleum carving tools are very sharp and students can cut themselves deeply if their carving tool slips and they are not acting safely.
